We Need A National Plan To Reduce Plastic and make BIG polluters pay

Australia's packaging system is broken. Nearly four years after governments promised stronger national packaging laws, they have failed to deliver - and Australia has missed every national packaging target set in 2018.

Voluntary industry measures have failed. Australians are left paying for the waste through council rates and environmental harm, while producers avoid responsibility.

The cost of this inaction is growing. Plastic continues to pollute our oceans, generate greenhouse gas emissions, and break down into microplastics that are now found in our food, water and bodies.

The solution already exists. The Federal Government can use existing laws to introduce a mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme, ensuring the companies that produce packaging take on the responsibility and cost for its full lifecycle - not Australian households.
