Hi, I’m Sophie…
I have lived and worked on the Northern Beaches for 25 years and I am your Federal MP for Mackellar.
I was elected as your Independent MP in 2022 on a promise to stand up for our community, to take our concerns to Canberra and to ensure our community’s voice and values are heard and respected in Federal Parliament. As an Independent MP I have been able to do this by introducing new ideas, holding the government to account, and standing up for integrity and transparency. I have helped create better policies by negotiating with the Government without being compromised by having to toe the party line.
Before becoming your Independent MP, I served our community as a doctor in the Emergency Department of Mona Vale Hospital and practiced as a GP in Narrabeen. While in 2019 I founded Our Blue Dot, a community-led non-profit organisation that aims to reduce waste and emissions.
I am also a former athlete and ran for Australia becoming a gold medallist at the World Junior Championships. I was ranked no 1 in Australia over 800m and qualified for the 1992 Olympics but was not ultimately selected for the Australian team.
I studied Medicine at the University of Sydney and have a Masters degree with Honours from Oxford University and completed a Master of Public Health with the University of NSW.
Outside of politics, I love being active - surfing, swimming or running, exploring the beautiful beaches and bushland of the Northern Beaches, and spending time with my three teenage children and husband.
It is an honour to be representing the community I love as your Independent MP in Federal Parliament. You can find out more about how I’m standing up for our community here. You can keep up to date with how I’m representing Mackellar by signing up to my monthly newsletter, and please contact me and my team any time here.
