It's safe to say 2024 has been action packed, but I'm ready to continue to stand up for Mackellar in 2025.

I have loved getting out and about on the beautiful Northern Beaches and catching up with many of you over the past couple of weeks.
This includes the many volunteers who go unrecognised but tirelessly serve to make our neighbourhoods - from Curl Curl in the south, to Palmy in the north and Belrose inland - a better, safer, more prosperous place.
Here are some of the amazing groups I have caught up with this week.
The Resilience Circle in Mona Vale is open! Huge congratulations to CEO Simone Allan for your dedication and turning this dream into a reality. The new charity shop is a beautiful community hub with proceeds going to the Women's Resilience Centre which supports women on the Northern Beaches to escape and recover from domestic violence. They are taking clothing and homeware donations so pop on down!
Forestville Toy Library - give the gift that keeps on giving! Northern Beaches families are so lucky to have the Forestville Cubby House Toy Library. This year they are selling a one-year voucher for toy and book exchanges. This is the best way to save money and reduce landfill while providing new games and toys for Northern Beaches kids. A wonderful initiative!
Mind Café in Narrabeen welcomes everyone this Christmas! The Mind Café is so much more than just a place for good coffee. It’s about bringing our community together, no matter who you are or your background. The owner, Guy, established the café as part of his efforts to overcome his own mental health challenges, so he fully understands the importance of community. In some really great news for the Northern Beaches community, Guy has won a Westfield Local Heroes award which provides enough financial support for the café to remain open next year. But before then, Mind Café will be hosting an Orphans' Christmas’ from 7am-11am on Christmas Day. They are always looking for corporate sponsors and community support. For more info click here.
An afternoon with One Meal Northern Beaches. Last week, I spent the afternoon with One Meal delivering food to locals who are homeless or doing it tough from Bayview, Warriewood and Narrabeen. This experience yet again underlined for me that the cost of living and housing affordability crisis on the Northern Beaches is having a huge impact on our community, but often goes unseen. Thankfully, One Meal Northern Beaches is doing more than it’s fair to share to make life a little better for those struggling to make ends meet. So much so that the organisation’s long time volunteer, Chris Lake, recently won a NSW Government Community Service Award.
If you have the capacity to volunteer, then One Meal Northern Beaches is always looking for cooks and drivers. And they always welcome donations. You can contact this worthy local organisation here.
As your independent federal MP, my job - and my genuine joy - is to listen to all Mackellar constituents and then take your concerns to Canberra. Please keep talking to me as I promise to listen! And, if you subscribe to this newsletter, it is fair to say you also care about our community so thank you for your support, advice and feedback this year.
I wish you and your family a happy and healthy Christmas and all the very best for the year ahead.
Best,
Sophie
