Paddle for Change

Dr Sophie believes that younger Australians deserve to be heard, even those too young to vote.

After all it’s their future that is being created through today’s decisions.

Your voice matters – it’s your future.

Be Heard. Get on board.

You’re invited to join the Paddle for Change, a youth led climate action event on Saturday 9th March 2024, 10am at Mona Vale Beach (Bongin Bongin Bay).

Help send the message that young people don’t want drilling for oil and gas off our beaches. Young people’s opinions should be heard when climate decisions are being made in Australia. Gather your mates and get on board for the Paddle for Change.

There’ll be music and a free BBQ and all are invited - if you prefer to stay dry you can get involved in our inclusive, creative collaboration on the beachfront.

We'll hear from speakers including Anjali Sharma, from the Duty of Care campaign, and Dr Sophie on why we need to stop PEP-11 and listen to young people when it comes to climate decisions.

The Duty of Care campaign was born from the group of young people who took the previous environment minister to court. They argued that all young Australians are owed a duty to take reasonable care to protect them from climate change harm. This lead to David Pocock's Duty of Care Bill which would require policy makers to consider future generations as a primary group affected by parliamentary decision-making and climate action on issues such as PEP-11. The approval of offshore drilling initiatives demonstrates how critical it is to act in the interest of future generations. For more information, please see this link here.

As part of helping young people to be heard, we’ll be collecting video footage to make a statement in support of the Duty of Care Bill.

This is an issue that will impact us all. So gather your mates, get on board. Stand up for our climate!

*everyone is welcome, you are not required to paddle out. Join us to protect our planet for future generations*
